Professor David Gray (UK)

Title: Success in Challenging Times: Key Lessons from UK SMEs

David Gray (BSc (Econ), MA(Ed), MSc, Cert Ed., PhD, FRSA) is Professor of Leadership and Organisational Behaviour at the University of Greenwich.  His research interests, and publication record, include research methods, management learning (particularly coaching and mentoring), action learning, reflective learning, and e-learning.  He has written books on work-based learning, coaching and teacher education and published in prestigious journals such as Organization Studies, Management Learning, and the International Journal of Human Resource Management.  He has been a member of the International Coach Federation’s global research committee, and is currently editing a European handbook for mentors.  David has led a significant number of coaching research programmes both for managers of SMEs, for unemployed managers who want new employment and more recently for unemployed managers who seek to start their own businesses. His most recent project, a UK national study on the triggers for SME success, was launched at the Google Campus, London in October 2012 and received national press interest. Johan Sloesen leads Nova Enterprise, an office within the Nova College that brings students, teachers and entrepreneurs together. Aim of this office is to develop intrapreneurial skills. In the near future a certified program for the Amsterdam Airport Area will be offered. Partners we involve are the Dutch Chamber of Commerce, charities like ‘Prinses Beatrix Fonds’ and ‘War Child’ and local entrepreneurs. Pearson and KC Handel (Dutch knowledge Centre) help us to develop the program.

Dr. Michelle Gialanze is the founder of IVC Malta, http://www.ivcm.edu.mt. Previously she has worked for the University of Malta for 15 years and has an extensive profile of experience within the private sector. IVC Malta works with students to build up entrepreneurship skills and abilities. Recently Michelle has been invited to lecture in Berlin on entrepreneurship skills within the education sector and has been nominated as a Bologna expert. Her areas of interest include innovation and the way people take on new habits.

Andrew is an individual with incredibly diverse and distinguished experience. He first gained a BSc in International Politics and Strategic Studies from Aberystwyth University College of Wales before completing an MBA at University College of Wales Cardiff. These extensive studies gave him a solid foundation on which to build a remarkable career.

He spent a total of seven years working in government in his native Wales, followed by a spell at the British Embassy in Prague. Upon his return to the UK, Andrew was able to hone his leadership skills in roles such as Senior Revenue Officer and Procurement Manager, before becoming a lecturer on the subject of business. As Dean for our Prague campus and our online courses, his business knowledge and experience is indispensable to us.
